What is an iron infusion?

An iron infusion delivers iron directly into your bloodstream through an IV line, bypassing the digestive system. It is often used when oral iron is not tolerated or is not raising iron stores quickly enough. At Integral IV we administer Monoferric, and the appointment takes approximately 75 minutes.

How much does an iron infusion cost in Duncan, BC?

Iron Replenish IV is $225 at Integral IV. That fee is for administration only; the Monoferric medication itself is prescribed to you separately. New clients also complete a $50 assessment (regularly $150) before their first infusion.

Do I need a prescription and bloodwork for an iron infusion?

Yes to both. All iron infusions require recent bloodwork and a client-specific order from a prescribing practitioner. Bloodwork should be within the last 6 months if your health is stable, or within the last 3 months if your health status has changed. Jackie Muth, our Nurse Practitioner, can complete your assessment and provide the lab requisition, or you can bring an order and results from your own practitioner.

What happens during an iron infusion appointment?

Your nurse reviews your plan and consent, places the IV line, and stays with you while the infusion runs. You rest in a leather recliner and are monitored gently throughout, and your nurse observes you for a short period afterward before you head home.

Who should not have an iron infusion?

Iron infusions are not suitable for everyone. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney disease, some heart conditions, and certain other health situations may mean this therapy is not appropriate for you. Your assessment screens for these so your care stays safe.
